Hi Dave,
Thanks for your comments. I spent about 2 hours last night and managed to
get to the relay. The toughest job was to get the darn cover off the relay.
:-) I cleaned the contacts with a strip of thin card board stock dipped in
DeOxit 5 and it seems to be working OK. It remains to be seen how long it
will last. I'll cross my fingers.
If I need to replace the relay at least I know how to do it. I haven't had
any issues with the tuner so didn't do any alignment. HNY

Hi Bert,
I recently did this on my 765 and cleaning it did not solve my problem. I
checked the contacts with a Tone-Ohm and they appeared OK. Problem with the
relay in my radio is that it is intermittent so I am going to order a new
one and change it. It is not a difficult job to get the tuner out and
dis-assemble it. I took a Sharpie and labeled all the connectors I removed
from the controller board but perhaps this is not necessary. Make note of
the two coax cables you will need to unplug from the board connected to the
antenna socket. You will need to de-solder them from the tuner PCB to get
the relay out. Before you re-assemble the tuner into the radio you may want
to go through the tuner alignment procedure since you can get to C5 in the
tuner unit then.
