The 551 series also has a rather noisy PLL synthesiser; the DDS in the 706
series has much lower phase noise.
Cheers for now, 73,

The 551D is a ~30 year old rig and prone to a frequency display failure
for which there are (to my knowledge) no replacement parts available. 706 of
any flavor is probably a better 6m rig and also covers from 160m to 2m or
432 depending on model. I even made a few 2m EME QSOs with mine and a 160w
brick and single yagi on CW, not WSJT!
They are prone to front end overload but so was the 551. I worked a lot of
DX with my 551A and 600w amp. NB probably better on the 551.
