Hi Julio,

In 2004, Motorola discontinued the SRFJ7044 PA power devices used in the
IC-706 series. This forced Icom to design a new PA board to accommodate
Mitsubishi RD70HVF devices which have a different mechanical footprint. The
new board will fit in older radios, but is quite costly.

IC-706 MkIIG's manufactured since 2004 all have the new PA board, and the
Mitsubishi power devices are available. A pre-2004 radio will require a
complete new PA board.

Cheers for now, 73,
Adam VA7OJ/AB4OJ

Subject: [ICOM] IC-706 repairs

While in conversation with a local ham here in the Tampa area he made
reference to not being able to get a 706 repaired if the finals go bad. He
said this was because the final transistors were no longer available and
Icom doesn't have a replacement for them.

Is this information correct?

Julio, W4HY
