[ICOM] IC-2KL in serious contesting

Hi Bert,

Depends what you mean by "serious contesting". The PW1 is not intended for
QSK CW; full break-in is very hard on its T/R relays.

I had an IC-2KL and AT-500 for 10 years. The most arduous service they saw
was on the old Icom Users' Net, with 3 hours of SSB operation at 500W
including many lengthy transmissions. This equipment never skipped a beat.

If the IC-2KL is operated within its design ratings (500W output), with
adequate cooling air-flow and correct ALC settings, it should last for many
years.

Cheers for now, 73,
Adam VA7OJ/AB4OJ

Hi guys,

Has anyone used the 2KL in serious contesting and what was your experience?
I have heard from unconfirmed sources that it won't hold up. Trying to avoid
any surprises. Thanks.
