Woody,

Jump onto http://www.icom.co.jp/world/support/download/manual/
Look up an older Icom manual like for the IC-730, 740 etc. They usually 
show a mic schematic. The HM-7 mic used a single ended amplifier with a 
single transistor powered by the radio. I suspect you can use an 
American transistor type in place of the one shown easily too.
