[ICOM] Icom 7000 and noise

That's a great idea - but John (like me) is in Oklahoma. There are NO ham
stores in Oklahoma. There's a couple of electronic stores that come "close"
- but they are in Oklahoma City - a 2 hour drive for me - and at least that
for him from the other side. It's easier to go to Dallas!

John ---
As a suggestion, go to a ham store in your area if you have one... they
are usually in a commercial area with all the noise in the world. Then you
can see for yourself.
I live about a quarter mile from one of the many main feeder lines in the
east Portland OR area, and very close to a large substation, none of which
is new construction, all of which have lots of dust & dirt, etc on the
insulators and suffice it to say, one heckuva lot of noise.
I've had my 756 Pro 2 and the 7000 on line here for the last two years,
and the 7000 seems to do just a hair better than the Pro 2. All except for
computer/router noise.
I use a vertical because of the space here. It's a good vertical with
about 8.2db gain... in NOISE! The 7K really helps out using either the
noise blanker and/or the noise reduction circuits.
I use the 7K in the mobile as well and the blanker really shines.
Try it in a noisy store and I'll bet you will be pleased!

How well does the Icom 7000 do at dealing with urban noise that you get from
powerlines, neighbors with noisy comsumer electronics, etc? You know, just
the residual noise level that comes from living in a fairly urban area? I
have had a couple of rigs that pretty much eliminated it (like the yaesu
FT100D) with the noise blanker, and quite a few that didn't do much to
eliminate it at all (like the Icom 706MKIIG). How does the Icom 7000 do
with its noise blanker and noise reduction?
