Hi Gang, I trust you are all enjoying better propagation that I am these
days. On a serious note I could use some help in getting my IC-706MKIIG to
work with my KPC3+ TNC while using Winlink2K's PacLink2k MP or Airmail
software.
The problem I am experiencing is that all is fine until I initiate a
connect/send command using either software. The initial transmit command
goes out and is acknowledged by the receiving station, but that's about it.
When the receiving station sends it's acknowledgement back I can see and
here it being received, the software indicates connected to (the station)
but no further transmissions between the two stations is processed by my
station. Eventually, the process times out, or requires a manual disconnect
command.
The currect configuration for the system is as follows:
IC-706 using the ACC connector located at the rear of the radio, connected
to Kanatronics KPC3+, connected to a Dell laptop via a USB to serial
conversion connector Model GUC-232A. All current drivers are loaded.
I have verified that the interface cabling between Radio/TNC and TNC /Laptop
are all good. I have not tried a different USB to Serial adapter
manufacturer, yet (I have had a problem in the past with USB to serial
adpaters made by Belkin). I have tried changing the radio and using a
IC-2100. I also had to change the interface cable between TNC and radio.
This configuration worked pefectly while still sing the laptop.
Conlusion: Clearly, there is something in the IC-706MKIIG/TNC that requires
a setting or mod between them to get things to work...any suggestions??? I
have already posted the problem to the WinLink2k, PacLink MP reflector and
was unable to solve the problem with suggestions provided. The suggestions
received really did not indicate anyone else having this problem . There is
a mod required to the IC-706 to opearte PacLink MP in HF Pactor mod, but I
don't think that is has anything to do with VHF Packet mode. The mod
addresses the 100 msec rise time of the transmitted signal of the IC-706
being to long and the mod lowers it to 20 msec. again, this is only for HF
Pactor mode of operation.
Any assistance on this issue is very much appreciated.
73,
Roland
