Thank you (!!) to all who replied to my request for help on my 761
'problem'.

The radio is in excellent shape but had an intermittent 'de-sense'
problem. Tapping the cover even almost imperceptibly, would restore the
sensitivity sometimes for good, (that session), sometimes for a minute
or two. I had the radio to the test bench several times, and each time
I was 90% sure the problem was fixed.
Chris, N9XM (among others), pinpointed the problem. Chris stated that
very information was available on the Icom website under "Knowledge
Base Article 5BAH296982".

I have a lot of Icoms and I 'though' I had read all these articles for
each model I own.

Obviously, I missed this one! Thanks Chris!!!!!

Icom has the relay for about $40 plus S&H. Figgerin' I had nothing to
lose, I disassembled the radio and cleaned the contacts with contact
cleaner on a small strip of business card.
So far so good......
It also appears this same relay is used in a LOT of other Icoms and it
has problems there also.

By the way, although straightforward, the repair is not for the faint
of heart. The relay board is buried in the radio. However, all the
connectors are unique and well documented in the Service Manual.

Thanks again, guys!!!
