Try cleaning the switch interface contacts with some TV tuner  fluid.  Make sure the cleaner wont attact the plastic.  Next trickle some petroleum spirits (paint thinner ) into the switch contact area and exercize the switches.  This should take care of the problem if it is mechanical.  Some of the older equipment with gold plated terminals would develop an interface resistance between the gold plate and the circuit board altho the joint looked good.
