[ICOM] ProIII? Why, for heaven's sake

I always temper one individual's statements as 'open to evaluation'. I
prefer to use large sample sizes (> 32 to be statically valid). Lots of
people berate the 'reviews' on eHam as NOT being scientific, but when a
particular product has hundreds of reviews with only a few
'disgruntled' reviews, you can see the overall effect. Lots of times,
the reviewers don't even OWN the device in question. These are
immediately culled from MY opinion. Some bash just to be obnoxious.
Kinda like the dialog on Channel 19, or was that 14.275 MHz????
I don't own a Pro III. I do have an original Pro, I purchased new in
Tokyo. I have compared this radio to my 745, 761, R-390 (mint, tuned),
75A-4, etc, ad nauseam. The Pro will hear ANY signal the other radios I
own (50+). Hearing statements like "It (whatever) heard signals
perfectly, that my (whatever), couldn't even detect, make me think, the
author has a 'problem' with the 'deaf' radio.
I have proven this to myself on dozens of occasions using good antennas
and a high quality coax switch, on all bands up through 50 MHz. They
(my radios which have been recapped, aligned, etc) ALL hear
(sensitivity wise) pretty close to each other. Heck, I have a FRG-7 and
a trio of Radio Shack AX- series of receivers that will 'hang in there.
The FRG is particularly sensitive.
Yep, some of my Lafayettes and other low end radios are pretty wide,
but they still have good 'ears'.....
If a recent radio appears 'deaf', it HAS a problem. I have bought
several from ePay, er, eBay, that were described as working 100%. Some
were deaf as a rock. Usually a front end device that took a 'hit'....
One question for the group....
I have a large collection of older Icom 2 Meter radios. Of the IC-22A,
22S, 230. 245, etc, vintage, these old radios have GREAT front ends. I
have been through them and they all work FB.
Rebuilding and rewiring the Diode board in a 22S was REAL 'fun'!!!
However, I would like to add PL tones so they are usable on something
other than Simplex!
In the past, I added a PL Keypad via the 9 pin connector in the back of
the radios.
RF Parts used to sell a NICE little 9 Pin plug (has the same pin
spacing as a 9 pin tube). These plugs were high quality and and had a
small, screw on cap. I contacted RF Parts with the P/N from an old
catalog and they no longer stock them. Last time I bought a dozen or
so.
(I also use these to make Solid State replacements for various 9 pin
tubes).
Anybody know where I can find some more? I have checked Mouser,
Digi-Key, etc, and nothing even close. There are a LOT of SOCKETS on
eBay, but NO Plugs....
HELP!!!!
tnx
