Well, I have to disagree just a bit. I'm an OF that was licensed in 1967,
and just love the computer control of the rig!
Granted, if I'm operating CW or SSB, I manually run the rig. But most of
my operating is done on the digital modes, such as PSK31. In those cases,
since I'm using the PC anyway, it almost makes MORE sense to control the
radio that way. My keyboard drawer pulls out, so I sit back from the desk
a bit while typing, and it becomes inconvenient to reach forward to get to
the rig.
Also, I had a badly torn rotator cuff last year. Before and after the
surgery, it was impossible to use that arm to control the rig. I felt
fortunate to have the CAT option!
