[ICOM] ICOM 746PRO Screen Brightness from K3JK

My understanding is that the display module is a
constant-current assembly. What power isn't
dissipated by the display is dissipated by a
discrete component behind the display. The
brighter the display--the more current it
uses--the less power that needs to be dissipated
by this other discrete component.

The problem originates when the heat-dissipating
component behind (I'm not sure exactly where it
is) the display has to dissipate too much heat
for too long. Maximizing the screen brightness
has the effect of reducing the heat that needs to
be dissipated by this second component. Ergo, it
lasts longer and the display assembly lasts longer.

I have a friend who would leave his radio on 24/7
and only turn the display brightness down when he
wasn't using it (didn't want to "burn the
display"). When he eventually received his radio
back from ICOM Service, they told him to leave the brightness up. :)
