[ICOM] Re: 706MKII with Heil HC-5

Sorry, Brian, but it isn't that simple. I have a headset with an HC-4
element which I use successfully on my TS-870 and other Kenwood rigs. After
I bought an adapter for the telephone type plug for the IC706, I found I had
insufficient or no audio. The ICOM requires an amplified audio signal and
headsets made for the ICOM have a built-in amplifier which is powered by one
of the pins on the microphone jack.

I asked Heil at Dayton last year and they said that they used to manufacture
an outboard amplifier but it is no longer in production (and I couldn't find
one on the Internet). They want you to buy all new I guess. They said that
because so few people understood how to successfully use the amplifier
(grounding problems, etc) they stopped production.

When I get around to it, I will build myself a little amplifier to go in
line between the headset jack and adapter cable.

Good morning all, I hope the subject it titled correctly.

I want to use my 706MKII for Field day this year and also use my Heil
headset HC-5 with it when operating.

I need to know if I need any additional connections to make this work, or if
it's even possible.

I recall the 706MKII has a telephone type jack to use the hand mike.

What gadget will I need to purchase so that the HC-5 will work.

Thanks

73,

Brian
