[ICOM] 756 Audio Problem

Hi,
I have an Icom 756, non pro version which has seemed
to
develop an audio problem with receiving.
The receive audio is very low and seems to be
distorted.
This problem came about a few weeks ago and I just
stopped using the radio. I thought that the DSP board
may have been loose. Today I opened up the radio to
check and found that the DSP board was in fact tight.
I hooked up the radio to an RF signal generator and
found that the audio was still very weak and
distorted. The S meter functions ok and the keyboard
feedback tones are loud with no sign of distortion.
When I turned off the AGC, the audio is loud with no
trace of distortion. Turning back on the AGC and the
problem is there. This seems to be AGC related. I do
have a service manual for the radio. Do you have any
suggestions?

PS. I have not tried to reset the radio as yet.
