[ICOM] IC-781 - was IC7800

Hi Mike,

In my IC-781, I replaced the stock FL-96 with an FL-44A, and the FL-102 with
an FL-223. The FL-44A, together with the existing FL-8, tightened up the
Twin PBT and greatly improved adjacent-channel selectivity on SSB. The
FL-223 provided a "narrow SSB" setting, which I activated by pressing the
"Wide" button.

You will need to flip the two DIP switches on the main board per the user
manual when installing the FL-223 in the FL-102 slot. The FL-96 must be
de-soldered in order to install the FL-44A in its place. The Inrad 109 is a
very good alternative to the now-rare FL-44A.

Cheers for now, 73,
Adam VA7OJ/AB4OJ

Guess the 781 is staying after all. I just ordered the cooling fan kit,
something I have been meaning to do for a long long time. Other than the
switches being noisy from lack of use, I have no problems. We are up to a
whole
91 contacts since I Jan 2000. It is almost a NEW radio.

ADAM - - - if you please sir, your best recommendation for the filters in a
781?
I have the stock filters in it. I also have a 223 filter. Almost typed
.223, I have a few of those too. <grin> The non-dot 223 filter is not
installed, the radio has the stock filters only. Since I have an IC-R9000,
I do not really need the AM filter in the 781.
