Gerry,
I support your preventative maintenance.
However, I have alternate solution. I use TRI-FLOW with Teflon, which comes
in an aerosol can. It penetrates very well and does not gum up like oil.
Once liberally applied, I have never had to repeat the lubrication. The
shaft on my IC-735 is still just as free as when I applied the TRI-FLOW
about 20 years ago.
