Define "better". In what respect?
But yes, the Rx in the 703 is better than in the 706, obviously this applies
to HF. The 703 does not have to cram V/UHF and a 100W PA in the same box (but
adds a tuner), making room for better filter layout. Further the integrated
tuner acts as a kind of pre-selector during receive and thus helps the large
signal capabilities. So the receiver is better in large signal handling,
probably to be seen in BDR figures.
This does not mean that the 706 HF receiver is bad. It's just overwhelmed when
used with large antennas, especially in the night on 40m. I use my 706 with
lots of success in my car - with small antennas. If the 703 had 100W
(maintaining the same Rx) I would probably exchange it, I don't need V/UHF
capabilities in that box.
