[ICOM] IC-706 Mk II no transmit audio

Hello all,
   My 706 Mk II has been in storage for a couple months.   Got it out
today to use on 6 meters for field day, only to discover there is no
transmit audio.   All was OK when I pulled it from my old car a couple
months ago.  Output is OK on CW, but tried ssb on 80 thru 6 meters,
absolutely nothing out.   Tried it with head plugged directly onto the
radio body, as well as using the extention cable, didn't work either
way.   I checked the setup menu, mic gain is at 10.   Anyone else seen
a problem like this?   Don't have any test gear or manual available
till I get back home next week, thought I'd see what other's have
experienced.  Radio is about 6 years old, this is the first time I've
seen this problem.   Is the mic element a prime suspect, or contacts
from head to body, or ?
