Paul,
It really depends on Model and condition. see:
http://www.dxing.com/rx/sp400x.htm
I repaired/overhauled the SP600's while in the Air Force and as a hobby
later. A mint condition means that mechanically it may be excellent. However
beware of "birdies".
Due to the age of the SP 600 series the bypass capacitors will most likely
need replacing if they have not already been changed. They used paper/foil
capacitors and they go bad just sitting on the shelf. The SP600 has
approximately 21 of these depending on the model. Replacing the capacitors
with ceramic dips or equivalent will be a virtual permanent fix. Its an
easy chore in the IF stages, however the complete tuner mechanism must be
removed to replace them in the RF section. These are the most critical.
I don't say this to steer you away, rather to make you "Buyer
knowledgeable". Be sure and listen to it with a good antenna. They are
excellent radios. The only drawback is the lack of fine tuning, the
bandspread is a little coarse. It also makes a good conversation piece in a
well equipped ham shack.
I realize this is a little off topic for an Icom reflector, but I felt a
desire to offer a comment since I'm very familiar with the receiver. Thanks
for the bandwidth.
