[ICOM] RE: PW-1 220 VAC US wiring?

 I just moved from Virginia where I had my PW1 plugged into a 3 wire,
220vac, 20amp plug.   On another circuit, the clothes dryer had a larger 3
wire plug.

Now, I am in South Carolina, and the house had a 4 wire socket... so off to
Home Depot and got a 4 wire cord, and was lucky enough to fine the owners
manual for the Dryer to hook up the 4 wire cord. Wife is happy.

That being taken care of, I want to have an electrician to install a 3 wire
220vac 20amp socket in my shack.  

Questions
1. Will he have to install a 4 wire socket because of code?
2. If so, could someone point me to the instructions on how to wire a US
PW-1 for 4 wire 220 AC.
