[ICOM] IC7000 Transmit Audio compression

Steve,

The IC-7000 has a great Compressor. A setting of 3 or 4 is all you  
need. The important things to check are:

1 - Turn on compressor and set to 3 or 4
2 - Set Meter mode to ALC
3 - While transmitting (into a dummy load) speak into your microphone,  
and adjust the Mic Gain so the ALC meter deflects to between 70% and  
80% of the Orange Bar on the meter. This is roughly equivalent to 40%  
of 'Full Scale' meter reading.

Set this way, the listener should not really hear the compressor. Your  
overall average signal level should increase.
