Thanks for that wake up call Mike! I've got the same set up as you and
I've been concentrating on stuff in the basement (Fluorescent lights,
electronic furnace, modems, etc)! I have a wireless enabled computer in
the operating area with an external "gain" antenna to hit the wireless
node that's upstairs. I've got birdies on 20M and some hash on 40M that
I have been chasing for some time now. Your message just made the light
bulb come on! DUH, shoulda thought about that when I first noticed it
... just after upgrading the HF radio to a new one!

BTW, had 9 days of downtime from Verizon in December when the phone box
at the house died AND a piece of equipment at the switching center died
AND they changed (updated) the system software to the fIOS system and
didn't test it first. The tech that finally fixed our problem (he was
the fourth one to try) told us that the field guys are often left out
of the software loop. Then Verizon billed us for a full month for two
lines and the Internet. After complaining to three levels of "customer
service" hierarchy, they credited me for two weeks on both invoices!

I had 20m birdies up and down the band, all from my new wireless router
installed by Verizon for my fiber-optic "FIOS" system.
I put several ferrite beads on all cables going into the router,
including the wall-wart cord.
The router is on the second floor, I am in the basement.
Results...birdies are gone.
More beads on the lines may be the answer.
