Maybe. It depends on whether the impedance is reactive or not. Icom's
SWR circuitry reacts strongly to some reactive loads... even on HF it
can be touchy. The two 746s I've had access to would cut back power very
quickly into moderate SWR. I would notice it if I tried to use my
horizontal beam cut for the low end of 2M on FM or if ice or snow
detunes the antenna. I also notice that the SWR folds back power when I
use my TE Systems amp. As it requires about 60W of drive it is
serendipitous as it prevents inadvertently overdriving it ;-)
The suggestion to adjust the cable length a little is a good one as it
will change the reactive component component of the load. Also, if you
are seeing a 1.3:1 SWR at the end of a cable run, your antenna SWR is
higher... you might want to adjust the antenna.
If your rig puts out full power into a 50 ohm load, I wouldn't worry
about it.
