Thanks for the info...From what I've found so far, I may have to make up a
pack with 1/2 sub C's. I think with solder tabs, 5 of them will take up the
room of 3 C's.
I have not seen anything like 3/5 C size. The original were 900 ma. Even
the 1/2 C now are quite a bit more than that.
I'd just like to get it going with batterys to move around the house. The
shelf-type radio has a lot better sound than any handheld today!!

Actually, they are 3/5 C size. Five fit in the
length of 3 C cells. The IC-215 takes 9
C cells to operate, giving ~ 13.5VDC for
the operating voltage. The optional charger
that you have fits in one of the sections of
the battery compartment that holds 3 C cells
in each column. Then 10 each of the 3/5 C
size cells fill the remainder of that compartment.
I still have the 215 I bought new at Dayton back
around 1976 or so. The NiCd cells bit the dust
somewhere around 1980 or so, but I just have
it powered up by external 13.8 VDC supply for
a monitoring receiver in the shack.
The NiCd cells had become unobtanium as far
as I knew, but have found that they are more
readily available now. Replacing mine is far
down on my priority list.
