Bert,
I have to ask he does not have the RF gain turned all the way down does he?
Is the RX out to RX in jumper on the rear panel in place?
Whats his S-meter doing? is it pegged?
Sometimes DP-6 goes bad, the S-meter will peg and the receive signal
will be gone. DP-6 is in a metal can on the display unit.
Usually the -5 volts supply is missing from DP-6. Sometimes the problem
is cracked solder joints on the pins, not where they attach to the
display circuit board but where they come out of DP-6 itself. Remove,
reheat and re-solder those pins and a reinstall many times will fix the
entire problem. If the receive comes back after the PTT is pressed and
released generally I would suspect a TR relay. There is also a relay in
the receiver circuit that may be open so far as I remember. You will
need to trace the signal through from the antenna jack. Will not be too
hard as that relay will be almost right after the path breaks between
the transmitter and receiver. It should show up on the schematic very
near the antenna connector.
Hope some of this helps
