When the guys were telling you to check the other side band I think they 
meant for you to transmit on the other side band as well. Your test 
started out well but fell at the last hurdle. When you switched the 7000 
to LSB you should switch the 746 transmitter to LSB as well and then 
tune in the signal again. If it reads 50.125 exactly for best speech 
then you have a problem with USB. If it reads 50.126.5 for best speech 
then you have no problem and the 7000 is simply displaying the centre of 
the filter bandwidth as opposed to the suppressed carrier frequency.

So in your last step when you switched the receiver to LSB don't forget 
to switch the transmitter to LSB then report back with what the display 
reads for best sounding audio.
