   Hi,

I have two questions about the IC2KL amplifier.

I normally use a tube amplifier with a solid state exciter. As a result
I do not use an ALC connection between the amplifier and the radio
preferring to set the rigs output power control to a suitable level to
drive the amplifier. Icom seems to be quite emphatic about the need for
an ALC connection from the IC2KL amplifier and I have heard mention
elsewhere that it is considered a must with the PW1. I am interested to
hear what people are doing if using a 2KL.

Several of us are using the amp without ALC. It works fine, although
we're paying attention to the drive levels.

Second question concerns 2KL alignment. I have a copy of the AB4OJ and
K9NX procedure and presume that is all that is required. I do not have
an Icom service manual for the 2KL. How will the lack of an ALC
connection impact the protection and power setting process?

Don't know.

73, doug
