What's the point of this radio?

How many ways can you slice the gap between PRO III and 7800? How much price 
can you take out of the 7700 before you may as well just buy a PRO III?

I don't discredit the 7600 because I think ICOM is obligated to foist upon 
the world a DC-Daylight radio, but I do think those added bands would give 
it more reason to exist than merely being a stripped 7700.

That said, there is one aspect of this radio that makes it stand out: USB 
port for radio control. Since few new computers even know what RS-232 is...

But if the USB port is the only thing, I'll stick with the P III and my 
two-transistor CI-V emulator.
