Allan: ESD and Lightning protection protection is a very subjective matter and to some degree is dependant upon your geographic location and station layout, not necessarily just the fact that you own a PROIII and an AL-1500. Additional ESD protection can be had on antennas with insulated elements by using balancing or matching devices that provide DC ground to the elements such as a 1:1 3 winding voltage balun at the feedpoint. The various handbooks and antenna manuals and manufacturers of lightning protection devices provide info on lightning protection.
