Hi David,

I was once a fan of the boom mic. Then I tried a headset. The freedom of
movement is a big plus, particularly for contesting, I found, as I would
sometimes find myself needing to do some adjustments in mid-sentence,
either
to the rotator or amplifier, and not having to Art Bell the boom mic was
beautiful.

A real good, real cheap headset is the Heil BM-10. Get the IC element if
you
have a pre-PRO Icom. Mr. Heil says the standard elements work FB on all
PRO
radios, which he says (and only a friend of Joe Walsh would put it like
this) have a "righteous front end."

Of course, it should, since he designed it.

Kelly

I'm quite satisfied with my SM-20 and SM-8 microphones BUT I sure
wish they could be boom mounted so I could get them off my desk. I've
often wondered why Icom hasn't added such a mic to their line-up. I'm
open to suggestions for modification or alternative mics that don't
involve exotic, expensive professional devices.

Thanks and 73, Dave K4QT
