Hi Bob,
Excellent overview, but I should like to make a few comments (leaving aside
the difference in technological generations between the 756Pro3 and the
TS-950SDX):
The fans in my network server (also in the shack) and in my Yaesu Quadra
amplifier completely cover the fan noise of my IC-756Pro3. I can hear the
Pro3 fan only when I press my ear against the radio case.
The Pro3 spectrum scope has 1 kHz resolution bandwidth, which allows some
examination of spectral content. As I recall, the SM-230 band scope (BS-8
module) had about 25 kHz resolution bandwidth.
Leaving aside the aftermarket roofing filter, there are no optional filters
of any sort for the IC-756Pro series. IF selectivity is a process in the DSP
algorithm.
The Dual Watch architecture is a compromise; of course. I use it when
listening for a call on 17m whilst operating on 20m, for example, or to
monitor both channels of a split operation.
I am not a contester, and do not have a computer connected to my station.
Cheers for now, 73,
Adam VA7OJ/AB4OJ
