I believe that the first PLL frequency controlled digital readout rig for
Icom was the IC-701 which they began selling in the U.S. in 1979. I think
this was the first PLL frequency controlled digital readout rig for any ham
gear manufacturer but I could be wrong on that.
I owned one between 1989 and 1992 and it had a darned good receiver on 160
meters. It had the variable bandwidth feature that worked real good.
