[ICOM] IC-7700

There are many ways to use indices like the CPI, and you come up with
different values depending on which one(s) you choose. I used the most
extreme way just to make a point, for which I apologize. (Remember Mark
Twain.)

Using the very most conservative way, a $2,990 JRC-245 would "cost"
about $4,000 today. In other words, a 245 in today's dollars would
cost a bit more than an Orion II without built in antenna tuner, and a
little less than one with the tuner. Given a choice of which to buy,
I'd surely take the Orion.

You can buy a Pro III AND its power supply today for $2,700. If i had
to choose between it and a 245, I'd surely take the Pro III and pocket
the $1,300 difference.

There are many examples. My point is simply that inflation does not
always lead to paying more for less. In fact, in high-tech fields price
drops due to technical progress quite regularly outstrip inflation,
often by a very great margin, while product quality and performance
increase by leaps and bounds. Consider what has happened to the price
of computer memory since 1995.

Again, sorry if I troubled anyone! Bottom line is that It seem to me
that if the 7700 appears as billed, it will be a terrific buy, perhaps
one of the best ever in the field.

vy 73 as always,
Jan
