[ICOM] IC 706 Question

Greetings,

I bought a used ICOM 706 (original) and I'm having difficulty getting the unit to transmit. The radio will transmit on SSB with VOX activated, but it will not work through the PTT button on the microphone. More of a concern of mine is that I cannot get it to transmit in CW. Is there something simple here that I am missing? I really feel this is the case.

Suggestions are most welcome...
