Oh, and yes, I do have a 3rd party auto-tuner plugged in. I do get this
behavior everytime I key up.
...more later.

I also use CW in my "truck." You didn't say, but if you have an autotuner
attached, or an oem "plug" in the white connector on the rear, it can/will
cause a retuning at the split transmit frequency, but shouldn't happen but
once, when you change frequencies.
Check:
Quick Set Mode Item: Q3 BK-IN DELAY. Default is 7.5 (dots).
Initial Set Mode Item: 28 PTT TUNE. You can turn this off, but if you have
a tuner, you will have to press the tune button to cause tuning.

Folks,
I just recently started using the IC-706MkIIG on CW in the truck. The odd
thing is - when I use split and key it up, there's a solid tone going on for
about a second before I can actually hear the code I'm sending. During this
time, it seems like the rig is keyed for this tone.
I had sent the rig off to Icom to have them check a separate concern (and
asked them to look at this) and they tell me the rig is fine.
Therefore...
It must be a "defective user".
Any ideas?
