Hi Rick!
This is a common problem, but is easy to fix.
Remove the knob and the rotary encoder. Remove the 4 mounting screws. If you
have the service manual it will be easier to figure out how to do this.
Once you have it out of the radio (remove the LEDs be unscrewing two
screws). You will see the front cover pops off. Then remove the "E" keeper
at the end of the shaft. Remove the shaft and clean the old grease off of
everything. I use isopropyl alcohol with q tips.
Put new grease on the shaft and reassemble. It will work like new!

Hi Gang,
During Sweepstakes the main tuning knob on my IC-765 became very
difficult to turn. The knob turns smoothly but requires much more
effort than ever before. It has always been consistant and needing
minimal effort. The problem in not a function of the brake adjustment.
Also there are no spots that indicate a bad bearing.
Any ideas?
