Hmmm, that's interesting as there are 3 AGC settings on the TS-850 (Fast/Mid/Slow), plus "Off" if pumping is an issue. Also, the '850s narrow-spaced dynamic range is better than many other radios and slightly better than the ProIII (http://www.sherweng.com/table.html), though not enough to really matter.  The ProIII definitely has more features and is at least equivalent in performance, but for the $$$, the '850 is hard to beat.

My experience with a TS850 was positive except in a pileup or contest.  Under "dense" near in signal conditions the WGC pumping was more than I could take.  I operate mainly cw and had all the narrowband filters in the rig.  I traded it in on an MP, which I still have.  It has its own short comings but is much better at handling near in signals.
