Eric,

I have an IC 706 MK 2G installed in my 2004 Honda Accord and do not have nay
computer
problems or issues. Here is what I did.
1. The radio is in the trunk. For DC power from the battery to the trunk,
I used two #10
dedicated wires fused near the battery.
2. In the trunk, I have a LC filter. The L came from a defective computer
power supply. The
5 Volt in these supplies is rated at around 20 A. No problem with current
rating. It is low
inductance, but seems to work. The C consists of several hundred uf
electrolytic in parallel
with 0.01 and 0.1 uF ceramic. I use a total of 6 capacitors, one set at the
DC input of L and
one set on the radio side. This keeps ant RF from being fed to or from the
radio. All these parts
are in a plastic enclosure
3. The radio is mounted on rubber shock mounts on a 1/2" plywood base. The
radio is connected
through 1/2" braid to the car body near the radio. Over the radio, there is
a metal (steel) cover
which is also connected to the car body with braid. The metal cover came
from a 'dead' toaster
oven.
4. The antenna in mounted on the trunk lip and the mount is also grounded
with a braid.
5. The radio's control head is on the dash.
6. Since the 706 gets warm, and probably hot in the trunk, I mounted a 3"
fan approximately 1"
from the front of the radio. The fan is turned ON when the radio is ON.
Looks at the rear
accessory connector. One pins has a 12 V output when the radio is ON. I
used this 12V to
turn ON a solid state switch which turns the fan ON.
7. This installation is approximately 3 years old and there are no problems
with the cars computer.

I hope this helps.

Mort, KB6BSN
