Mel, Alex,
Icom appear to have used the IC-7800 RXPLL-A module as the IC-7700
receiver/synthesiser. To add Dual Watch, they would need to redesign the
board to add a splitter, combiner, secondary 1st mixer and associated
circuitry. They would also need to design a separate synthesiser (PLL) board
for the secondary channel. All this costs R&D funds and development-cycle
time.
Time (and sales figures) will tell whether or not Icom were right to launch
the IC-7700 as a single-RX transceiver.
On the analogue meter issue, it is a matter of personal taste. My Yaesu
Quadra amplifier has a long LCD bar-graph scale which reads PEP accurately -
I checked it against my spectrum analyser (which has a peak hold feature.) I
am quite happy with that.
Cheers for now, 73,
