I have my icom mounted in a cabinet; while I have ceiling down
lights lighting up my work surface, at night I don't have enough
light on the face to read all the small fonts either. During the day
there is enough ambient light coming in the windows to see. I stuck
two white CCFL cold cathode fluorescent lamps in the cabinet above
the radio, just forward of the set. Run the little inverter on the
12DC supply for the rest of my stuff. Then I put a wirewound 25 ohm
pot to tone down the light......
cost $4.95 for the light kit from a computer store in bloomington
indiana on the internet. This worked out better than the string of
leds I tried.... or the row of "grain of wheat" lamps.
