My reliable 706Mk2G, installed in my car for about 4 years, and used @2
hours per day, has an odd receive problem.
The radio works perfectly on UHF, for TX and RX. It also works well on
TX/RX on HF.
On VHF, SSB is OK, but FM is a problem.
I first noticed while scanning public service channels. Sensitivity
appeared way down, and received signals had a "hash" across them, as if
there was an adjacent user. The hash appeared pretty much the same whether
an S5 or 20 over S9.
It has gotten worse-while working a very local repeater last week, it goes
from "clear as a bell" to "full hash". My buddies on the repeater were also
pointing out that I'd go on TX from clear to unintelligble hash at the same
times..
Checked antenna, OK. Ruled out adjacent interference, paging towers, etc.
That the problem occurs on TX and RX at the same time points to a flaw
somewhere in the FM section, but why only on V, not U, HF ?
I'll probably be sending this out for repair soon, but any input would be
appreciated.
