[ICOM] LED for display light

I use 10,000 MCD white LEDs off E-bay.
I grind the lens off so the light isn't focused, and use a 100 ohm resistor.
For really small applications, I grind the LED down really small till it
fits in the hole.
I have successfully converted several radios to LEDs one at a time.
Whenever a radio blows a lamp - I pull them all and put LEDs in place.
I have also experimented with amber and green LEDs with mixed success.
Getting them bright enough is a must. 7,500 MCD wasn't enough for me.
I have also converted my AZ-EL rotor controller and the meter lamps in my
IC-781, IC-R9000, etc etc.....
Yeah - it is a lot of work - but its kinda like when I did the front yard.
After the city rebate - I basically paid $200 to never have to cut the grass
in front again. The grinding and prep will take time, but you only have to
do it once!
Good luck.
