[ICOM] Raspy CW note on IC751A

You really need to see if it does it on all bands.... Mine does,
therefore I'm suspecting the regulator and the filtering around it and
not the VCO trimmers. Of course, while you are in there, the trimmers
should be changed out anyway.

Hi Gary,
Yes, it sounds like the notorious VCO trimmer problem. The 4 plastic HPL
VCO trimmers will need to be replaced with ceramic parts.
Cheers for now, 73,

Subject: [ICOM] Raspy CW note on IC751A
Good afternoon all, I recently purchased a used IC751A on Ebay and added
the narrow CW 455khz 250 hz filter to this radio. I find the CW note on
RX is very raspy sounding while the same station on my 746pro is quite
pure sounding. Any suggestions before I start pouring through manuals
and reported fixes on the internet? I am seeing this on the 40 meter
band but due to few signals anywhere else don't know if all bands are
affected or not. Could this be symptoms of defective trimmer capacitors
I have read about elsewhere?
Thanks in advance.de gary, kd9sv
