Two reasons. First "new" modes benefit from QRG stability. Secondly and for
me most important the whole radio uses one osc just and a slight
misaliginiment makes a noticeble difference in preformance. I my self and a
friend that used to have a 775 was very supriced to notice the difference. I
am sure that sooner or later many people will regret not getting the TCXO
what ever the radio is. The thing that got my attention in this issue was
that my suplier had a frequency counter that was slightly off. Then I
adjusted the radio toward standard signals on 10 and 15MHz and also well
known BC-stations on 15MHz BC-band. (BBC and others) Even if I adjusted the
radio less than 200Hz there is a big big difference how the radio preforme
and sound. Really a big difference!

And again I just must recomend Adam's site to get better understaning in how
radio's work and the filter section can really be worthwile checking out
once, twice and more.....
