[ICOM] IC-7000 AGC; IC-756Pro vs. IC-7000

Hi Chris,

Good to hear from you! It has been a while.

There have been considerable advances in DSP technology since the IC-756Pro
was introduced in 2000. All else being equal, the 756Pro may have a slight
edge in strong-signal handling because of the larger (higher-Q) coils in its
front-end bandpass filters. It also has a built-in ATU, a real-time spectrum
scope, bass/treble TX audio equalisation and Dual Watch (which the 7000 does
not). The IC-7000 noise blanker, being a DSP process, is adjustable and
should be superior o that of the Pro. The 7000 also has a dual DSP tuneable
notch filter inside the AGC loop vs. a single (but very good) notch in the
Pro.

I would suggest that you hold onto your 756Pro, even if you purchase a 7000.

Cheers for now, 73,
Adam VA7OJ/AB4OJ

Adam:
Awhile back you helped me greatly with me learning how to operate my new
rig. Now I am wondering if you would compare that with another.

That is, my rig is a IC756PRO (one of the first in Canada by the serial
number) Now I am wondering how it would compare to the new IC7000. The
main reason is I am not that active, am unable to reach Europe because of
the mountains to the NE (also ON and east) However, on 80m WAS on 40m most.
So I have been think of the IC7000 plus an auto tuner.

What sayest thou?
