[ICOM] Sherwood Engineering and DSP

I first noticed this problem when I purchased my 9000D 2 years ago. I
have some electric fences to my west that put out pulse every second.
This pulse pumps the AGC and creates a serious problem. The 7800 handles
it well when I use the NB at low levels. On my early 9000D, the NB adds
to much distortion to be of any use. (Yaesu may have a fix for this).

If you are in a quiet location then this is probably not a problem. Most
likely many hams are experiencing this problem to some degree but write
it off to general noise on the band.

Supposedly, Flexradio and Tentec have addressed this problem with a dual
loop AGC, but both my SDR-1000 and Orion II still suffer from the
problem, just not as bad. When I'm operating with the beam in the
direction of this noise I generally switch to the 7800.

It is very interesting that the AGC on the 756PRO II and other older
rigs are NOT affected by this problem.

I was at Rob's presentation at Dayton. Keep in mind that this was at a
Drake Forum. I think what Rob is saying is that the manufactures really
need to address this issue. I think there is little doubt that DSP
and/or SDR radios are the wave of the future.

When recently A/B testing FT2000 against IC765 I have noticed exactly
what
Rob Sherwood describes in his presentation.
I have got rid of FT2000 after that.
