Mike ... Thanks for sharing ! I was referring to mods.dk I do not have a problem with my 706mk2G in the summer for the air conditioner in the window keeps it cool. Actually my operation is not long and extended so I do not have the heat problem. And as yet have not made the modification. On the previous version of the 706 the fan runs all the time.
You have given me some other clues.... I am running my 706 by battery so I may only be giving it 12 volts. I have a terrible problem with noise and have come to the conclusion that it must be white noise.. Do you have that problem? My old TenTec Triton IV handles the noise a lot better.
Still have the Astron PS in repair mode I am waiting to order a new regulator board.

Two things that should fix this problem I am sure you have been already
told. First always run the radio on 13.8 VDC not 12 VDC. If you use the radio
in the car, leave the engine running. Shut the engine off, the battery
voltage drops and you have the bad audio problem as well as reduced output.
Second go on the internet and type in: mods.dk . once on that site
click on Icom and then click on 706MK2G. Look for the fan running at lower speed
during receive mod. All it takes is the addition of one resistor.
I have made this mod on the two 706MK2G's that I have. In the receive
mode the radio runs 50 percent cooler.
When you key up the transmitter the fan runs at full speed.
These two suggestions should cure your problem.
Good Luck and 73.
