since i use three of these as receivers, I went thru this process also....

but Gary's solution / information with a resistor ,  makes me want 
to  open up the radio and cut the traces to the t/d sql button;  or 
the hi/lo button  and wire that as a scan button,,,,

another project,,,,,  close to the bottom of the list....
