This is not just a matter of two switches only.

You will need to duplicate the actual circuitry
of the Icom hand mic in that box.  There will
probably be a resistor or two that will also be
required.

Thomas,

Just make a small mic interface box.  Have the mic cord that connects
to the rig exit on one side of the box and drill a hole for the 8 pin
mic socket on the other side.  Install Up/Down buttons in a convenient
location on the box and you have the best of both worlds.
