[ICOM] IC-746PRO_ALC_SSB_PROBLEM

I have a IC-746Pro that exhibits a very strange problem. When I key the mic, a few times the ALC jumps to well over 50% and there is no RF output for a word or two. I sent it to the Icom Musician repair facility and they said they fixed the unit. Well, they didn't fix it but fixed some other things that I didn't know existed and did a upgrade???
Anyway, has anyone else experienced this problem?
It never happens on RTTY or CW just SSB and get this, even with the no mic connected and pressing the transmit button in the SSB mode I can still see ALC jump to well over 50% at times???
If there is no audio where is the ALC coming from?
I'm totally perplexed!
